BitTornado started out as an experimental version of the original BitTorrent client which was modified by Eike Frost. It was then modified further by TheSHAD0W to create the current version. It is written in Python.

Features

  • Upload limiter - Used to limit the upload bandwidth used by the program in order to avoid "choking" the network connection and slowing download speeds
  • Super-seed mode - This is a feature for increasing the efficiency of seeding the torrent when there are very few seeds.
  • UPnP port forwarding - Automatically opens ports in your firewall or router for BitTorrent traffic when needed. Only works in the Windows version unfortunately.

Each running BitTornado client only supports one torrent but more than one client can be opened at once for running multiple downloads.
